James 1:6-8 says” But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
I like this verse for it has a lot of meat to it, first of all it speaks of a man of two souls, or of a double heart, that speaks and asks with a heart, and a heart, who halts between two opinions. It is uncertainty what to do or say, and is undetermined what to ask for. Who is not sincere and upright in his requests, who asks for one thing, and means another, does not call upon God in truth, and in the sincerity of his soul. Draws nigh to him with his mouth, and honours him with his lips, but his heart is far from God.
The man is unstable in all his ways; he is confused in his mind; restless in his thoughts, unsettled in his designs and intentions; inconstant in his petitions; uncertain in his notions and opinion of things.
Now ask yourself how many times have you read this scripture and you probably never given it any real thought as to how it applies to your life? If we are honest with ourselves we will see that we at times are just like this man who James speak about.
Lord God help us to be stable in our asking and thinking, let us draw closer to you with our hearts and not just with lip service. In Jesus name I pray, AMEN!
