Revelation 2:2-4 says” I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked people, that you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false. You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary.
Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first.
About a month ago while in church my pastor read this scripture, as I read along I stopped and pondered on it. This verse weighed so much on me that I could barely keep focus on the sermon.
Last week while during my personal reading and study the Lord directed me back to this same scripture. I must have read it ten times before I started to dig into it to get the meaning of what Jesus was saying. I began asking the who, what, when, where and why’s.
The moment I started asking those questions my spirit said to me, “Desiray, it’s not hard it’s very simple what this scripture is saying and what I am saying to you. It is asking you ” have you lost your first love?” right there my mind began thinking of all the things I do for the Kingdom of God, and I said Lord I never want to ever lose my love for You. Don’t let what I do consume me so much that I lose my love for YOU!
Family and friends I know so many of us do great things for God we spreading the word, we are helping others and the list goes on and on, but there is one thing I know we must all stop and ask ourselves “have we lost our first “LOVE”( which is Christ Jesus)? I know you might say no you haven’t because in all honesty who would say that they have, but God knows each of our hearts and sometimes without notice you and I get consumed in the things we do for God that we forget our first love. In other words we forget to spend time with Him like we first did when we became born-again.
Remember all those days and hours you would read the bible, how you would talk to God through-out the day, and your prayer life was so vibrant? Now that you are doing things for God you have slacked off of the time you use to spend with Jesus.
What Jesus is saying here in this verse of scripture is, He sees the things you are doing for Him, He sees how you hate the things He hates but one thing He holds against you is that you have lost your first Love.
Father God forgive us forgive me for lacking in that area, Lord let us be aware that we never lose our first love for You. Let not the things we do become our love. Let us remember why we do what we do, because of our love for You Lord Jesus. AMEN
