Contending the Faith

Jude 1:3-4 says”  Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people.

For certain individuals whose condemnation was written aboutlong ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord.

What does it means for a Christian to contend the faith? Have you ever given it any thought? Well in the book of Jude, Jude is telling us that we must take a direct stand against those within the church who denies the bible’s authority or change the original message of truth as presented by Christ.

WOW! Why was Jude telling us to take this direct stand against those of the faith? Why not take the stand against those who do not believe? The reason Jude said against the church is because many false teachers and prophets will come from within the church.

They would have appeared to be Christians but inwardly they are counterfeiters, they have their own truth that they want you to follow. They will deny God’s Grace and say it is okay for you to live in immorality.
Folks we are already seeing this happening in some churches today, many have adopted to the way of homosexuality and same-sex marriages, there are some pastors who have come out of the closet and are now preaching.

Just this summer  a young man who went to school to be a pastor was interviewed in the news paper saying that he is a homosexual and that his congregation is for homosexuals only. His church is in LA. Folks you and I should be more than ever contending the faith. We can’t keep our mouth closed no longer.

As we see in scripture there will be people who will walk away from the truth. I know some of us are passive we don’t like to stir up the dust, we like peace and calm. But I am here today to let you know that Jesus said “He did not come to bring peace, but to bring a sword” there will be times in life that we will be persecuted we will be tested beyond what we could even imagine. And so Jude was concerned that he was warning the people to be contended in the faith. Not to give up to remain in the truth to take your stand.

Because saints if you are afraid to stand up for righteousness they you are a friend of this world and you are not a friend of GOD. For about a two weeks I myself have been spending more time reading 1 John, 2 John 3 John and Jude next I will be re-reading Revelations again.

Food4Thought:

We as saints we pick and chose which scriptures are comfortable for us to talk about. Think for a moment all the postings you do on your site, do you speak the entire bible or do you pick and chose scriptures that are comfortable for you and your readers? When we pick verses that makes people comfortable including ourselves we are doing them no good. And that is just what Jude was talking about the very thing some of us are doing.

Lord let us love “TRUTH” let us not be ashamed of TRUTH! In Jesus name I pray, AMEN
