Update: On Mouth Fast

Since Sunday November 10, during my mouth fast I want to share with you something that I am learning. I never realized how much I  always have to say something. The Lord has been showing me through this mouth fast that I am going to learn how to be silent even when my flesh does not like it.

Many times when we go before the Lord we assume that we are going to hear from the Lord right away. Not always the case folks. I believe when we come to the Lord we don’t always come as humble as we should and so He does some purging within us so that when we come we do come humble.

All this time I thought I knew how to be silent before the Lord, but what the Lord is saying is being silent before Him comes in many ways.  It’s not just your mouth but also your actions. Remember the story of Joshua and Israelites during their conquest to Canaan?

Joshua commanded the people, saying: ‘Ye shall not shout, nor let your voice be heard, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I bid you shout; then shall ye shout.’These men showed great strength and on the seven march those fortified falls came crumbling down.

What did these men knew about that Jericho’s Wall, they knew it was a strong building built by man’s hands they also knew that it was a battle and that many will die. Their faith came from their inter strength of silence that the Lord spoke to them about.

In our society we look at people who are silent and we assume that they are passive and weak.  We tell them to grow a spine, but let me tell you about a meek spirit. A person who has a meek spirit is full of strength and that is what the Lord is showing me. There are some fortified buildings in my life and just like Joshua and his men I too am going to have to march around my Jericho walls and be silent until the last day and then shout.

Key note the men already knew that the walls will fall down the Lord told them that, their shout was not because the Walls fell down their shout was bringing glory to their LORD! AMEN

To know more about the story you will find it in Joshua Chapter 6.

  1. Awesome word! I was the one told my entire life I am weak because of my silence, but I assure those who said that, they don’t know the real power of keeping silent to hear God. It will shock people when I do speak God’s word, but it should not shock – if people truly understood it’s power more people would go on this “fast” 🙂 Have a great day!

    1. People just don’t understand the strength of being meek. I know I never knew it. I am seeing over the last two years or so just how much strength it really is. For it takes strength to know when to speak and when to be still. Thank God He hasn’t stop teaching me. (I do have a hard head)

  2. For me, keeping silence before The LORD can require not only the mouth and actions, but the heart, too; a silencing of my desires, dreams, fears, etc. Thanks for the thought provoking post, D!

    1. Thank you sis for that comment it does require the heart as well. I always say that everything we do for the Lord will require a heart change. Thanks for stopping by it’s been awhile how are you doing?
