Deuteronomy 12:8 says” You shall not do according to all that we are doing here today, everyone doing whatever is right in his own eyes,.
In the wilderness, while leading a nomadic life, no certain place could be appointed to them for the observance of sacred rites; each man did in that matter as suited his own convenience.
And now we are here in the 21st century and we still wanna do things which suits us. For we know we are right in our own eyes and last thing we are going to do is to allow anyone tell us differently. And because of it we wrestle back and forth with the Word of God, because we want the Word to suit our needs.
Proverbs 21:2 tells us Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts. See here a warning against self-deception and that silly self-complacency which thinks its own ways the best. Septuagint, “Every man appears to himself righteous, but the Lord directs the hearts.”
But the Lord pondereth the hearts: weighs them in the balance of righteousness and truth; considers them, having a perfect knowledge of them, and all the springs of action in them; and knows that every way of man is not right, though they may seem so to him.
