Do you View the Bible as a Chore?

2 Timothy 2:15 say’s Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

The reason that many of us can’t rightly divide the word is because we view reading and studying it as a chore instead of a lifestyle.

  • What type of quality do you give when it comes to reading your bible?
  • How much quantity do you give into searching what you have read?
  • Are you taking notes so when the Holy Spirit speaks to you about what you read, you won’t forget it?

Let’s be honest with ourselves, reading the bible can be difficult because God’s standards are opposite from ours. When we read it we struggle and have conflict with ourselves because we don’t want to do what God says. He says forgive we want to hate, He say’s no sex before marriage and we want to have sex, He says love and we murder.

There is not a person on the face of this earth that does not struggle when it comes to studying the word, but just because you struggle with reading it you have to do it. And the only way is through discipline, that’s right you have to discipline yourself.

Anything that you and I want to do rather it’s hanging out with friends, going out for dinner, doing crafts, or watching our favorite program, we do it with pleasure don’t we? We will  read one of our favorite authors and will read for hours. If we can discipline ourselves doing the things we enjoy then why do we view God’s word as a chore?

Until we change our minds about God’s word things in our lives are just gonna get more harder for us. Some way some how we have gotta stop treating God’s word as He will understand. Yes God will continue to love, but does that mean that we are to take His Grace for Granted? Sadly enough we all are guilty of it. It’s a good thing that God gives us Mercy because if there is no mercy I don’t even wanna know what would be of us.

  1. So true…when I was a teenager, I loved diving into God’s Word, but as I grew older, I really struggled with studying God’s Word and did it less and less until one day I realized how far I had strayed from His ways. I really do believe studying God’s Word helps us stay on track in our lives. I want to get back to the love for His Word I had when I was younger.

    1. Thank you for sharing that. I did the exact thing several times. It’s a blessing when we come to the end of ourselves and get back on track.
