Stress…Are we apart of our own stress?

James 1:2-4 says” Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds,  because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.  Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

Romans 12:2 says” Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Each of us will face stress in this life because we can not control what happens in life. The only thing we can control is how we are going to react to it, and so with that being said Jesus has given us many scriptures to help us with stress.

We know that stress comes from a list of so many things for example:

  • Relationships               Stress at work                    Responsibilities
  • Stress at work              Health                                   Emotional Problems
  • responsibilities            Life Changes                      Money
  • Health                              Fear                                       Family

I do believe that we as humans bring more stress on us then necessary, for instance, we try to fit into the pattern of this world. When we are on our jobs we want everyone to like us so we get involved in what I call those office politics. We go to PTA meetings at school and we want to be like the rest of the moms, so we talk like they do we dress like they do we get caught up in all the gossip. And before long we end up imitating them and losing ourselves in the process.

Because we don’t do what the scriptures says we add more stress to our lives, life itself is full of problems, why in the world would anyone add more problems on top of what is already there?

We will always have stress because of sin, but God has given us a way to avoid stress in our lives and yet we ignore it, why? Because we want to be apart of the world. When we take on the  pattern of this world we find ourselves so frustrated, overwhelmed and exhausted that the only thing that brings calmness to us is a visit to the doctor’s office and with prescribe medicine to relax us. God never intended for us to be so out of whack that we have to take drugs to relax us.

So the next time you find yourself stressed out ask yourself one question, ” what part of the world were you trying to pattern? Once we stop pattern the world we will be at peace, can’t be at peace and be a friend to this world at the same time.

  1. This rings so true to me. I believe that conforming to the standards of this world will always lead you farther away from the path God has for us. It’s a lesson we sometimes have to learn over and over to understand.

    1. Leshia you are right we do learn it over and over. I know for myself I had to change how I allowed stress to bother me. There was things I had to stop doing so that I would not be stress. The one that stressed me out the most use to be job…I would be the type of person who would go into to work and I had to be in all the conversations I had to liked by everyone. I wanted to fit in. What I learned was I sat myself up for failure because the very people who I thought was friends ended up getting me into trouble at work. I received so much pressure that my boss was constantly picking at everything I did. I was so stressed I hated going to work. Finally I had to leave that job.

I thought that leaving was going to help but it did not help because God showed me you can’t run you have to deal with things. From that experienced I know how to handle the work place much better.

I did end up with a new company and my perspective is a whole lot different, I no longer try to fit in with the people, my attitude has hanged and because of what the Lord showed me I no longer stress at work. Everyone is at work is stressing but I don’t let it bother me. My co-workers have even asked how are you able to not be stressed how are you able to keep maintaining your good mood? I tell them my perspective on things is not longer what it use to be.

It’s amazing to go to work and not be stressed, I have to say I am loving it. And now I am teaching my husband and daughter the same thing the Lord showed me about stress.

The Lord is so right when He says we can have peace, we bring stress to ourselves when we don’t listen, and now I am listening because I use to be that person who had to take medicine because I was off the hook couldn’t handle stress having it eating me up. No more. Thanks for sharing my dear and rating it. God bless you and by the way I loved the photos of you and your family on vacation.

  2. Love this post. The Lord just wants us to “rest” in His Presence and not worry, stress, or fear anything. It is the level of faith that He desires all of us to have.
