That RELUCANT Spirit we all have

Jonah 1:1-3 says” The word of the Lord came to Jonah son of Amittai: “Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me.” But Jonah ran away from the Lord and headed for Tarshish . He went down to Joppa, where he found a ship bound for that port. After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the Lord.

Purpose1

Many times when we read the story of Jonah we think about the big huge fish, and how Jonah got swallowed up by this fish, and how he lived in the belly of this fish for three days.

But there is more to this story than Jonah being inside the belly of this huge fish, see Jonah had received directed orders from God to go to city of Nineveh and preach against it, because of its wickedness, that has come before the Lord. But Jonah had other plans he was not going to do it, sounds like us doesn’t it?

God gives us a direct order and what we do instead of taking heed and obeying we run with our tails between our legs as if we can really hide from God.

The miracle of Nineveh’s redemption is all in the story the pursuit of  loving God towards Jonah, God knew Jonah was afraid and scared of the calling He had given Him. But God wanted a relationship with Jonah. God comes for us when you and I run from our commitment to Him. Ask yourself today what area of your life is God speaking directly to and you been running by not facing the issue. You may not jump ship and go into the belly of a fish and be swallowed whole but when we run from God instead of to Him there are other elements in this world which will swallow us up.
