Proverbs.11:24 One man gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.
Matthew 6:4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you
Proverbs 21:26…the righteous gives and does not hold back.
Luke 6:38 says’ Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye meet withal it shall be measured to you again.
When it comes to giving we can take a survey and ask what giving means. And we will come up with many different answers. Instead of that let’s take a real deep look into our hearts.
Giving is a heart-matter period, when you and I give we give for reason and expectations, I mean let’s be honest with ourselves, we give waiting for something rather it be possession or a favor back, we are expecting something back. We even wait to hear someone say thank you to us” and if they don’t respond then we say that they are ungrateful. But it’s that a form of expecting something?
And because giving is a heart matter we feel in control which means we give when we feel like it, we struggle giving to God, in our prayer life, bible reading, giving our tithes being obedient and listening to Him. We even play games with God with our manipulations, we will say, God if you do this or get me out of this mess then I promise I will be in church or if you heal me I will pray everyday, if you fix my marriage I will read your word daily. Who do we think we are fooling we can’t fool God He sees right through that manipulation.
If we really meant to give then when people don’t say ‘thank you” it wouldn’t have bothered us, but because they showed no appreciation we get upset. That is not a spirit of giving when we get upset all because they did not show appreciation. What it I,s that your heart really wasn’t in the place to give you gave our of self-gratification. Appreciation is thanking God that we where able to give, looking for nothing in return.
We give to the poor and we have to run and tell everyone else what we did for the poor why, because we are expecting people to say “oh bless your heart” you are such a caring person. We give away our possessions like our old clothes, furniture to rescue missions and the moment we drop them off we want a receipt so we can get a tax right off. Again always expecting something in return.
Jesus tells that when we give to the poor we are not to tell anyone, when we give we do it for the love of Christ not for ourselves. If we give all for the sake of receiving a reward from man than we are no different from those who prayed in the synagogues to be noticed by man, for they have already received their reward.
He taught His disciples to give He told them as He sent them out that they are to take nothing from no one, freely as you have received now freely give.
Imagine with me for a moment, if every person understood the true meaning of giving we would have a cure for the entire world, no one would lack anything. Many of us really do have good hearts and only God knows a man’s heart. But even in our good deeds and judgement we really don’t know how to give like Christ does. That is why each day we must allow the Holy Spirit to teach us how to give like He does.
Begin today to let the spirit teach you how to give like Jesus gives to you all day long.
