1 John 2:16 says “For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions—is not from the Father but is from the world.
Webster’s define ambition as a strong desire to do or to achieve something, typically requiring determination and hard work:
2. The lust of the eyes: the eyes are delighted with riches and rich possessions; this is the lust of covetousness.
3. The pride of life: a vain man craves the grandeur and pomp of a vain-glorious life; this includes thirst after honor and applause.
The world draws the heart away from God; and it want us to follow the world instead of God.
John is telling us that there is nothing wrong with being ambition but in your ambition see to it that you don’t fall prey to the world desires of flesh, eyes and pride, because it’s so very easy to fall into it.
God desires to give you much more by His grace but He will not give it to us if we become filled with the desires of world.
The scripture here is an examination for every believer to examine their hearts and repent for we all have been guilty of one of these if not all of them.
