Genesis 9:12-15 says’ And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. When I bring clouds over the earth and the bow is seen in the clouds, I will remember my covenant that is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh.
Seeing a rainbow is the most beautiful thing that the eye can behold, every time we see one it causes us to stop in our tracks and take a look. What is God saying to us when He allows us to see this beauty?
Many people believe that it’s a sign that Jesus is coming back. And though it sounds nice it’s not scriptural folks. When we read in Genesis 9:12-15 it talks about the covenant that God made between Himself and the earth. And the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh. That is what it means when we see the rainbow it has nothing to do with a sign of Jesus coming back.
So why do people say it? I wish I knew the reason it could be interpreting the scriptures wrong or just bad teaching all together. But clearly as we see in scriptures God says nothing about a sign of the return Messiah.
Let us always thank God for this covenant that He has made.
