Who’s In control? You or Your Flesh?

1 Corinthians 6:18 says ” Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.

What is it about our flesh that you and I let it control us? It controls our thoughts, our emotions our wills. Our flesh is not our friend it’s a dead’s man corpse that we drag around every second of the day when we allow it to tell us what we should and should not do.

We put so much trust in our flesh we worship our flesh we give it anything and everything it wants. It lust after life, it lust after pleasures it lust after pride and so much more. It craves the breath out of us until it is feed and once it is feed it will leave you and I alone for a moment until its next feeding.

This is why Jesus tells us to put no confidence in the flesh and that we must kill the flesh daily, when you and I don’t give into the flesh we are killing it which means we give it no power and when it has no power it dies off. Each day we must shed the flesh we must not give into its cravings, and oh how the enemy loves this because he knows our weakness and he preys on them he puts thoughts into our heads causing us to give right into the flesh.

Then without any warning (well maybe I should not say warning) because there is always warning signs, the question is do we choose to see them or not? But once the flesh has been satisfied it leaves you and I all alone in a dark cold place. Now we end up feeling miserable and ashamed all because we allowed our flesh to control us instead of us controlling the flesh.

Homes have broken up, marriages are ending in divorces, children have become disobedient to parents and authority, all because we give into our flesh needs. Romans 12:2 says” Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will. Our minds must be changed and you and I can’t do it on our own or in our strength we must do it with the Holy Spirit.

  1. An interesting point presented The Flesh vs the Spirit; The Physical vs the spiritual and then the impact of sin.
The fleshly person is drawn along by personal desires and lusts as you mention but Paul and Jesus talk of another battle that is waged before any action – the of our conscience and the use of Romans 12: 2 that total transformation is as Paul indicates a painful process.
We are born and raised with the fleshly or physical person in control we decide to develop the spiritual person and need to rely on outside help.
Nice way to get the day moving.
