Praying the Scriptures

Question: What is really praying the scriptures?
Answer: Praying the scriptures is reading God’s Word back to Him.

You no family there are so many books and discussions on how to pray. And with so many I believe we have become so overwhelmed that, that is the main reason many of us don’t pray. Because we just don’t know were to start, it’s like people have invented some formula of some type.

So how are we to really pray the scriptures? Let me give you an example. Let’s say you need encouragement. What you do is open you bible find scriptures that speaks about encouragement. For instance

  1. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”  Joshua 1:9
  2. I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. Psalm 34:4

When you need peace read these scriptures back to God.

  1. Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you all.  2 Thessalonians 3;16
  2. May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. Romans 15:13

Life will call each one of us to prayer, and often times when we heed that calling we don’t know how to pray. Ever found yourself in that situation before? I know I have many times. The harder the life pushes me the harder it is to find the words to pray. This is why we must pray the scriptures, it’s not like God has forgotten His word, many great men and women of the bible always recited God’s word back to Him.

If you haven’t been praying the scriptures when you pray, start today and you will see just how powerful God moves in your behalf. God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: has he said, and shall he not do it? or has he spoken, and shall he not make it good? Numbers 23:19

Let us not make praying into some type of formula or any religious tradition. Praying is and never was meant to be difficult. This is why Jesus taught His disciples to pray for He knew that man would make it hard, by their interpretation..

Father God life gets hard at times for us and as your children we still live in this carnal body. We know that your word is made alive in us, and yet we find ourselves feeling ashamed when we kneel to pray because we haven’t been the best christian we should be. But because of your Mercy and Grace you never hold it against us., thank you! Lord help us to have a more active prayer life, let us always be prepared to open up our bibles and pray your words out loud to you. We don’t want to be a people who only pray when our world is topsy-turvy. Make us a people who desire to pray every day. In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen, Amen and Amen.
