How do you write God’s name? Capital “G” or small “g”?

1 Corinthians 10:31 says’ So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

Why does a person write God’s name in lower-case letter? Instead of capitalizing the “G?”

Obviously we are to give honor to God in all that we do. Pretty simple right? Not really, because some of us when we write God’s name down on paper we write his name in lower-case letters. Now before you get upset and stop reading this post. Hear me out, did you know that atheist write God’s name in lower-case because they don’t honor Him?

Your friends who you know are Christians, even they write God’s name in lower-case letters. I am not sure what makes a person do such a thing, nor am I am judging. But what I am doing is this, here in this verse we are called to honor God in all that we do. I know for myself I could never write His name in lower-case letters. And when I see it; it really bothers me.

You are probably saying that it doesn’t take away from it? You might be saying that I don’t know his or her heart? And all of these things are true. And there is a “but” to this. Let us not pick up bad habits that the world does and then try to rationalize it so that we are at peace with what we do.

To those who do write God’s name in lowercase letters I ask you a question, where in the bible do you see God’s name Jesus’s name in lowercase letters?

  1. That’s a really good point! I tend to capitalize every chance I get, in any referral to Him, because it is one small way I can show respect. It denotes authority and it assigns personhood in the form of a proper noun. God is not a god, He is The God.
