Genesis 17:4-6 says” As for Me, behold, My covenant is with you, And you will be the father of a multitude of nations.“No longer shall your name be called Abram, But your name shall be Abraham; For I will make you the father of a multitude of nations.“I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make nations of you, and kings will come forth from you.
WOW!!! A brand new name. What is it about the name change? In scripture we see that God changed the names of many people, and so I have to ask what name change did God give me when He called me? In our society we have people that don’t like their name that they were given at birth and so they can have it changed by law. And when you think about it after they got their name changed it really doesn’t mean a whole lot away. It doesn’t have any significance to it.
But when God changes your name it says a whole lot about the call God has on your life. It’s has nothing to do with the person at all. And did you notice that when you read about the new name God gave them it came with great meaning. Today let’s go back to the bible and look at these names like the following. Saul became Paul, Simeon to Peter , Mara to Naomi and Jacob to Israel.
These are just a few, see if you can add one to this devotion that you found in the bible. My personal thought I believe we too have a new name the day we accepted Jesus Christ into our hearts as our Lord and Savior. And that name is GRACE! AMEN! God bless you all.
