Exodus 20:03-6 says,“ You shall have no other gods before me. “You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.
Did you know that on any given day you and I idolize stuff? I know I got your attention now, but we do. We idolize the gifts God gives us we idolize our strengthens in which we have. Right now you are probably saying “no way” but yes way, and I will show you how. Let’s say that you are a computer wiz you know all the ins and out of software and hardware, and because you do you begin to think that there is nothing you can’t do with a computer and that people have to come to you because you know it. Before long you stay up with the latest news and fashion about computers so much that you are always on the computer doing something to it.
Another example let’s say you are a music minister and God has anointed you to lead others into worship, you know all there is about worship you become caught up in yourself thinking yeah, God uses me to lead the people into worship. You don’t let others in the music ministry sing lead songs you must be in control of everything that happens you decide what songs they will sing you decide what functions you guys will attend, and how long you will sing.
I know you may not think this is idolizing but it sure is because see only God hands out gifts to us all and rather you are talented of gifted does not matter what matters is you can’t allow your gifts to take front and center stage of GOD! This is why we see so many churches falling in leadership and we sit back and wonder how could it happen, it happens because we idolize the blessing instead of the blessor. We have seen pastors well-known people fall and after they have fallen they come back saying that they idolize themselves instead of lifting up the name of Jesus.
Yes, we do wild-eye when we see the manifestation of what God done in our lives and it does make us so eager to go out and use it, but remember it’s not about you it’s all about God this is the very reason why Lucifer fell because he idolize what God gave him and we know that he was in charge of worship. Don’t let the blessing that the Lord gave you keep you from being a blessing to someone else. For I am sure you don’t want to be where so many have fallen from God.
In final word be a blessing and share your talent and gifts with the world because the gift that the Lord gives us all is never for ourselves it’s always to bless someone else…AMEN
