Being a Servant

Matthew20:28 says” just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

What would happen if Jesus came to be served instead, He came to serve?

There are so many ways in which we can serve each day if we would just open our eyes and stop thinking about ourselves. Let me give you some examples.

We all have stood in line in front of a person who just didn’t have enough money to pay for something that they wanted and you heard the person tell the clerk to take it off their bill. How embarrassing that is for the customer but look at how you can be a servant if you would just tell the clerk that you will pay for it for them.

We all see people hanging out at the stop light begging for money with their signs. What would happen if you reached in your pocket and gave them a few dollars? I know what you’re thinking ” how do you know that they need money to eat? You don’t know. But place yourself in their position and you were hungry and had no place to turn. It’s easy to look at them and make judgement when you’re not in their situation.

What about that employee who works with your day in and day out and you see them standing at the bus stop did you ever bother to ask do they have a ride?

Sure, we can’t feed and help everyone who we see but I tell you this, every place Jesus went He touched people’s lives. And that is what you are to do.

I don’t understand how a person can see someone in need and overlook their need.

Family we can’t be servants if we only serve ourselves, we can’t be servants if we look down on others because of their misfortune. My mother was not rich in wealth but she surely was rich in wisdom. She taught us children to never look down on a person because one day it will be you. She taught us to always give if someone ask something of you, especially if you have it. She taught us to be kind to all people to have respect for your elders and to always say thank you, yes sir and no madam. She taught to love the Lord and seek Him early she taught us to pray about everything. And to never think that your better than others.

Those are the things Jesus taught her and she passed it down to us, and I passed it down to my daughter. And now I will pass this down to my grandchildren. If you really want to know what being a servant is look at what Jesus did. Remember the saying WWJD “What Would Jesus DO? I know for a fact He wouldn’t ignore and treat people the way we do. Today let us all thank God for His grace because had it not been for grace each one of us would be in a mess. I am asking you will you stop thinking of yourself for once and think of others.
