Psalms 1:1 says “Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers.
Why would a Christian take advise from someone who is not born again? Taking counsel from the wicked will get you in trouble because they go against God’s word.
How many times have we read this verse of scripture? I believe we all can say “yes” we’ve read it, but do we really know what it means? Today I have taken the liberty to break this scripture verse down so that you and I can get a much better understanding of what the Psalmist is telling us. Here we see the Psalmist is talking about two people the righteous way and the wicked way.
The word blessed in scripture means complete happiness! Complete happiness is only found when we as child of God do not part-take of ungodly activities.
Walking in the counsel of the wicked, standing in the way of sinners, and sitting in the seat of mockers. The wicked violates God’s command and they do it knowingly.
Walking in the counsel of the wicked, standing in the way of sinners, and sitting in the seat of mockers. The wicked violates God’s command and they do it knowingly. Walking in the counsel of the wicked, standing in the way of sinners, and sitting in the seat of mockers.
The wicked violates God’s command and they do it knowingly. The sinners are people just like you and I before we accepted Jesus Christ whose way of life has felt short of God’s standard for living. Mockers are people who openly and blatantly show contempt for God’s Law these persons despise God.
Sounds like you and I before we accepted Jesus Christ. Now let’s talk about the counsel of the wicked. Counsel means purpose, a plan it’s our own state of mind saying “I am going to do what I want to do. (how many times have we done this)?
The wicked says I am loose and I go against the morals of God for I am without godly control. (In other words, they don’t let God direct their path they march to their own beat. They are control by their own desires, and impulses of their very own mind).
Stand in the way of sinners, we are to go down their path for we know the ways of the wicked. In other words, don’t follow them. The Path of a sinner is a journey of one’s evil behavior and conduct. We are not to dwell or abide in their evil ways of living.
For the seat of the wicked plots destruction and doesn’t follow God’s Laws. We are not to have no fellowship with making any type of deals or of close associations. Scoffers are people who mock, deride and ridicule the word of GOD.
We as Christians are to be around sinners so that they can see Christ in us, and so that we can tell them about Jesus love. But we are not ever to partake in any type of works of sinners. Often what happens is a Christian will hang out with sinners so much that they end up doing what the sinner does, and the sinner becomes confused as to what the Christian lifestyle is and they assume that the behavior that the saint is acceptable. When it is not acceptable.
Remember Christ ate at a tax collector’s house sinners were drawn to Him, and Jesus never partook of their activities. And neither should we. Follow the model of Jesus and you won’t go wrong…. AMEN
