Luke 6:38 says “Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”
Here is a verse that we all have heard many of times but do we really know what Luke was talking about?
The word gives means to willingly make it not difficult but let us give, neither out of mere human generosity, nor out of vanity, nor from interest, but for the sake of God. And that the measure would overflow.
As we give to others by measure it will be given back to you without difficult or by human generosity but for the sake of God it will be given back to you. The principle here for us to learn is “giving.” We must give not because we must or want to by our own sake but to give because of God’s sake.
We reap exactly what we sow and we receive proportional to the same measure that we give. “He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully”
For many of us this principle is going to challenge us because we only want to give when we find it fitting, and we expect something back once we give, if this is our mentality then we got it all wrong, because if you expect something back your hearts motive for giving is wrong.
Jesus talks about those who pray with the wrong motive, always make sure your heart motives for giving is God centered.
Last thing I ever want to do is give for the wrong reason, I want my giving to be with a pure heart.
