Question: Is it true that once a person is saved, they are always saved? Or is it a phrase that people say so that they can continue to sin?
Answer: The answer is no! A person can lose his or her salvation if they chose to.
John 10:27-28 says’ My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand.…As we see from scripture His sheep will not follow another and no one can take us out from His hand. The problem with us is that we proclaim to be a sheep of Christ but we aren’t really following Him with our hearts, which makes it very easy for us to listen to another’s voice and follow that voice.
Hebrews 6:4-6 says “For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame.
God gives us a free-will which means we can either follow Christ or not follow Christ. So, the moment a person has decided in his or her heart to follow God we are instructed to live by the Word of God, so that we can live righteous. And yet we have people who have become saved and they have refused to live the righteous life that God has given them, why is that?
What causes a man turn his heart away from God? The answer is sin. In 2 Timothy 3:2 it say’s for men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boaster, proud blasphemers, disobedient to parents, un-thankful and unholy. As sheep, we must listen to the voice of God and recognize His voice, but when one doesn’t spend time with God they listen to those other voices that are out here in the world.
I pray that we all would have a burning desire to continue to follow Christ. To live in this world without Jesus is not living at all. Times are going to get hard things you never endured before will present themselves to you. Don’t walk away but run to Jesus every day. In the Mighty Name I Jesus I pray. AMEN
