Is Promotion Good for YOU?

1 Peter 5:6-7 say’s “So be content with who you are, and don’t put on airs. God’s strong hand is on you; he’ll promote you at the right time. Live carefree before God; he is most careful with you. (Message Bible)

Who doesn’t want to be promoted? When you have worked so hard one of the perks is being promoted. But I wonder what really is our motive for wanting to be promoted? Is it so that we can throw around our authority? I think we want to be promoted to feel important. We all have witnessed what it looks like to be in charge, we’ve seen the bad and the ugly. Sadly, we have seen more ugly than good.

Is promotion good for you is the question? You might believe you deserve it you might even think that you will be good at it. But the Lord sees our hearts and He knows what a promotion will do to us over-all, therefore you haven’t been promoted. Now before you get in a hissy fit, when the Lord promotes it has nothing to do with how passionate you are about it, how much experience you have or who you know. When the Lord calls you no one or no devil can stop what God has called.

Often it appears that those who do so little are being promoted before us. And yet it’s unfair but what can you do when it’s not in your power? The first thing you need to do is to get your eyes off them, what I mean is stop idling the position, when we idle a position we are now in the devil’s playground and before long we will end up having ill will feeling towards that person. You’ve see it how someone will treat a person rudely but when you ask them why they are doing it, they can’t give you a real reason? It’s childish but people still do it. Being promoted is about our hearts, and because we don’t know our hearts how can you honestly say that it won’t change you.

Here in this verse we see Peter talking to church leaders telling them that they are to take care of the flock not because they want to be promoted but because they love the Master, Jesus Christ. Obviously, there were a few who were being bossy by telling others what to do instead of showing them the way.

Man promotes for different reasons and we will never understand them but don’t give up.  Don’t become envious instead thank God for what He is doing in your life, because at the end of the day; it’s best to be promoted by God then man any day. Man, promotions always come with a hidden cost.
