2 Corinthians 8:7 says’ But just as you excel in everything in faith, in speech, in knowledge in complete earnestness and in your love for us see that you also excel in this grace of giving.
What is Paul telling us here? Just as God expects us to show great faith, godly speech, growing knowledge of Him and genuine love for his people and purpose. God also expects us to be generous with our God-given resources. He wants us to do well in this spiritual discipline. Often times you and I neglect to offer our resources to those who need it at that moment. We neglect to give our time and talents to our local church, our communities.
So why are we hoarding our resources? What are we afraid of? Do we really believe that once we give we become empty and have nothing left over? This is why we aren’t truly blessed the way the bible says we can be when it comes to giving. We don’t trust God so we aren’t going to excel in giving.
God never asks us to give more than we are able with his help, he may stretch us beyond what we feel is possible in order to increase our faith. God simply ask that we give willing, which should not be a problem, but we find it a problem to give don’t we? After all when we give to God’s purposes, our efforts are multiplied many times over and the blessings returns to us in ways that cannot be measured in earthly terms.
Giving is not always about money folks, you be surprised of the many people in this world who could really use your help. There is someone right now who needs someone to listening to them, have a cup of coffee. Someone needs you to help them paint a fence, tutor them, pick up their mail, the list goes on forever. But the moment their lips form to say “I need a favor we immediately think they want money so we become defensive and our minds and hearts closes. God gave His Only Begotten Son for us how can we keep closed hands?
I don’t know about you but I want to excel in giving what about you?
