Luke 18:22 says” When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
When we read this verse one thing sticks out at me and that is ” I want to know what is the one thing this man “lacked?” He has acquired so many things over the years. He probably had more money then what he knew what to do with, more clothes, plenty of friends, gold , silver, companies.
Just like some of us today we have stuff, and yet Jesus said this man lacked one thing, obvious this man was telling what he had, to show people how wealthy he is. What the man lacked was he did not have Jesus, and that is why Jesus said to him sell everything to the poor, and then your treasure will be in heaven and come follow Him.
You and I are no different then this man we have acquired allot over the years, we’ve even got saved, but let me ask you a serious question now that you are saved, do you know JESUS? And better yet , does He knew you?
In your acquiring always remember that what you have is never meant for you to keep for yourself, it was always for you to share with others. This is what Jesus was teaching the young man. When we give from what we already have that is the blessing which pleases the Father’s heart.
I remember when I was singing in the choir on this particular Tuesday night rehearsal, I just said to one of the ladies how I loved her jacket, she said you do? I said, yes it’s beautiful, she took it off and said, “you can have it” it’s yours” my respond back to her was I didn’t meant for you to give it to me. Her respond was, it’s okay Desi, it’s just a jacket I have many more. This woman knew what it meant to be a blessing to someone else, that is the example we are to live by. This is why Jesus made this statement, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” Mark 10:25
