Philippians 4:8 says” Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
We allow our minds to be cluttered with so much junk that our hearts are no longer guarded. Do we not remember that the Lord told us that we are no longer apart of this world? We are a new creature everything about us has changed, which means our thinking has got to change. In order to experience God’s peace and freedom from anxiety, we as believers must fix our minds on those things that are true, noble, right, pure, etc. If you do these things Paul is reminding us that the God of peace will be with you . The results of allowing our minds to be occupied with the ungodly things of the world is that the joy we have will be lost and our hearts are no longer guarded.
Whatever occupies a person’s thinking will eventually work its way out in words and actions. The qualities and character traits listed in this verse will lead to a healthy thought patterns that will be shown in a life of moral purity and spiritual fitness. Jesus knows what ungodly thinking will do for us that is why He tells us to think upon things that are of heaven.
