OPINIONS: We are Not to Quarrel !

Romans 14:1 says” as for the one who is weak in faith, welcome him, but not to quarrel over opinions.

We all have certain people in whom we get advice from, but how often do we rely upon another person’s advice?

Every person has an opinion but when you and I force our opinions on them then we have a serious problem. People will ask us a general question for they would like our opinion but for some reason once we are asked we take it a bit too far. This is why we have such a huge problem with anger and arguments and people breaking up relationships all because of how we handled the entire situation.

For we are ready to give them our thesis or dissertation then we get all frazzled and upset with them when they don’t see it our way. Why? I believe it’s because we see ourselves in how we would handle it. It’s funny how we as humans can be, were so quick to tell others but when we find ourselves in a situation we don’t take that same advice we offered to them. Asking for your opinion does not mean you are correct, nor does it mean that you are wrong.

So, the next time you are asked to give your opinion give them just that and not your thesis. All a person is looking for is feedback let the person asking give some thought to your opinion. You never know they just might take you up on that opinion.

  1. I think opinions are good when they are held lightly, ready for correction. Somehow in the last decade there seems to be an attitude of “if you don’t agree with me, you are my enemy.” How can that lead to deep understanding with taking such offence? We are to love each other in Christ not demand that others copy us. Oh God help us listen to each others heart and not condemn them but love them anyway.

    1. Amen. Our culture has turned into a wrong negative with our egos at the center stage. We have to daily lay aside those things which so easily beseech us.
