The sayings we take as Scriptures…

Deuteronomy 12: 32 says’ See that you do all I command you; do not add to it or take away from it.

Why do we stand on man’s made scriptures? You’ll probably wondering what I am talking about.

I have listed a few of sayings that people take as being scriptures. For example, “God helps those who help themselves.  Money is the root of all evil. Charity begins at home. To thine own self be true. Cleanliness is next to godliness. And God don’t like ugly. I have searched the bible and have not found these sayings in the bible.

And yet people quote it all the time. They stand on it and believe it. Why do we do this? Truth of the matter is this, we listen to what people have spoken when in fact we should search the bible for ourselves. Therefore, many of us don’t see changes in our circumstances because we are quoting scriptures that are not in the Word of God and we are standing on false words. The one I hear people say is “to thy own self be true”, that statement is taken from Hamlet by Shakespeare.

Don’t get me wrong I know why they say these things, to make themselves feel better but feeling better and knowing the word of God are two different things. I challenge you to remove quotes and sayings from your vocabulary that are not in the bible. You will be surprised as to how your faith will grow once you stop quoting wrong scriptures

  1. Good post! And that is certainly some sage advice. One of my picky points along these lines is something that’s in Scripture, but constantly gets quoted without the entire thought that precedes it: “The truth will set you free.” What’s actually written says, “… If you continue in My word, you are truly My disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Jn 8:31,32. Truth follows an “if / then” process of discipleship. It’s not a stand alone. Thanks for your thoughts. What you conclude is so true. Keep up the good work.

    1. Your right about that statement. We can’t just pick and choose which verses we will quote we have to quote the whole verse. Thanks so much for your comment.

      Have a bless evening. 🙏

  2. I really liked that post!! That is great advice and I for one like to get in the word and make sure I am given truth about something. If I hear something, I want to know the scripture it came from. My Pastor always says what’s the address.

    1. Thank you for your comment. My pastor always tells us to check him by opening your bibles and read along. And please feel free to stop by anytime. Have a bless day today.
