1 John 2:15 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
If we are truly honest with ourselves, we will all agree that we tend to love certain things that are in the world. Here we have John telling us not to love anything in the world for if we do then the love of the Father is not in you. Let me expound on this so we can see just how loving the world is not for us.
First, loving the world is a form of spiritual adultery and unfaithfulness that defiles our relationship with God and leads to spiritual destruction. It is impossible to love the world and God the Father at the same time. It’s just liked the scripture found in Matthew 6:24 that states ” no man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one and love the other; or else he will hold to the one and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
To love the world means to be closely related to and associated with its beliefs, behaviors and customs. Now, for a moment think of a moment when you compromised your faith in order to relate to the world’s view? We may not want to admit it, but we all have done it. God does not forbid us to appreciate and admire the beauty of the created earth, nature, mountains and forest.
While we are to hate the corrupt ways of the world, we also are to demonstrate God’s compassion for people who are spiritually lost caught up in the world’s evil and blinded by Satan’s deception. In the world, God’s people are aliens and strangers, simply passing through on the way to our true home with God. For we do not belong to the world but are called out from it. As a result, we are not to conform to the world’s pattern or love the things of the world.
We can do anything through Jesus who gives us strength. We must stop relying upon ourselves and start relying upon the Lord to help us to stay out from loving what the world has.
