Galatians 5:26 says” Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

Envy is rotten to the bone just like cancer is to a cell. The story of David and Saul is a very interesting story. Athough it is a long one it is good reading.

One verse I want to share with you and that is found in 1 Samuel 15:23 which says “For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

We know that David was a man after God’s own heart, we also know that David was an adulterous, murderer and that moral decline and rebellion plagued his family for years. But even in all what David did he always repented to the Lord. And the Lord showed David mercy.

We also know that God was with Saul and that Saul prayed for wisdom and because he did those who accepted his wisdom gave him wealth possessions, gold and silver. Saul and David were friends. But somewhere along the line the spirit of envy creeped in Saul’s heart. He hated David he wanted to kill him matter of fact he plotted numerous of times to destroy David.

Here in the verse we read were the Lord rejected Saul because Saul with had a spirit of rejection, Saul turned his back on the Lord. And because of that the Lord rejected Saul as King and made David the King of Israel. Yes, David sinned just like you and I sin today, but David never turned his back on the Lord.

Many of us today are enjoying the fruits of the Lord’s blessings, and many of us have turned our backs on the Lord. Many of us have people who are close to us and we become envious of how the Lord is blessing others. Don’t be like Saul and allow envy to creep into your heart. The Lord is no respecter of persons. When you see the Lord blessing others be joyful for them.

Envy will make you hate, envy will also keep you from being obedient to God’s word. At the end of the story between Saul and David we read in 1 Samuel 31: 5-6 says” Saul said to his armor-bearer, “Draw your sword and run me through, or these uncircumcised fellows will come and run me through and abuse me.”

But his armor-bearer was terrified and would not do it; so, Saul took his own sword and fell on it. When the armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he too fell on his sword and died with him. So, Saul and his three sons and his armor-bearer and all his men died together that same day.

Family being envious of anyone or anything is not worth it!!!! Father God I ask you to clear our hearts from this spirit of envy. Remove the root of it and restore a new spirit of love in us. Love of your word and to love people. AMEN
