Anxiety and Depression

1 Corinthians 10:13 says” No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

In America we have many people who suffer with Anxiety and Depression, and sad thing is anyone of us can fall prey to it at any given moment. What causes Anxiety and Depression? I believe it comes when we become fearful. The enemy loves to place doubt into the mind of a believer. If he can get us to doubt just an ounce then he knows fear is just around the corner.

In life we don’t get to know the answers to everything there are millions of uncertainties in this world. Even in our own home life we have uncertainties. But one thing we can surely count on and that is Jesus Christ. We can go to Him and find Him as true to His word as He was thousands of years ago. When we have an issue, we can open His word and read it to get an answer on how to deal with any matter in life in which we face.

Because we aren’t exempt from sin, we must learn to let the Holy Spirit teach us every day how to live. Even when it comes to the smallest of thing like what to wear, and you might be saying well that is crazy but, it’s truth. How many times have you put something on, and you loved how it looked and felt but the moment you went out the door people began starring and talking. Maybe someone said something to you that wasn’t appropriate and it bothered you? But had you listened to the Spirit when He told you not to wear it then you could avoid all of that, but because we don’t always listen to the Spirit, we must hear what people have to say. I do hope you see what I am saying in this illustration.

Once we realize that we have an enemy who will use whatever and whoever he wants to cause us to be fearful and doubt then it’s only a matter of time before we become Anxious and Depressed.

The cure for Anxiety and Depression is think on things that are of God, when an issue arises, and you are not sure how to handle it go to God first and wait on Him. I know in our humanist this is hard to do but if we start doing it this way then it will become easier.

  1. As someone who suffers from depression and PTSD, there is far more to this illness than just to “think on things that are of God,” we don’t tell a cancer patient to just think on things that are God without seeking medical help and even therapy. It’s important to understand depression is a serious illness. Therapy and medication have been essential to my healing. Recovery, however, is still elusive. God has deepened my faith through this illness, through this trial. It has given me empathy for others who suffer depression and a better understanding of the stigma that surrounds it. As you can tell, because of what I have been through, I am sensitive to this issue. Sorry if I seem a bit touchy.
