Put Your Heart at Ease

Psalm 23:1 says The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. 

When was the last time you relaxed? This is not a trick question but I want to talk about resting. Often times when we think of relaxing we associate it with taking a vacation. If we only relax when we take vacations we are in need of some serious help, because vacationing can’t be the only time you relax.

Did you know that your whole well-being is in need of rest? That includes mind, body and spirit. I know what you might be saying, you don’t have time to relax because you have so much going on. Well I say you do have time, you have to make the time. Each day a person should find at least twenty-minutes of getaway time so that you can refresh and refuel.

Most of the time when a person relax they end up doing something that they enjoy doing. But that’s not total relaxing is it? Relaxing is hard for some of us to do because we think that we always have to do something. Find a nice place in your home, sit or lay down and allow those thoughts of today to be faded out of your mind. Now when you start it’s going to be a challenge at first because we are so used to be doing and thinking that we don’t know how to quite ourselves. This is why many of us are so stressed out. We even become irritable with the littlest things.

Now for those whose minds are constantly thinking here are some scriptures to help you rest.

  • Philippians 4:6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
  • Proverbs 12:25 Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad.

If you take time to rest you will see a whole new you and you will be refuel, it’s a reason why doctors ask you how do you sleep. When you’re not stressed you sleep right through the night. People who are stressed only sleep four to five hours a night and that’s not proper sleep folks. Proper sleep is eight to nine hours a night. Many of us gain weight when we aren’t relaxed, we feel the need to eat because we are bored. You heard the saying? “Milk does the body good?” Now I am saying Resting does the body good.
