2 Corinthians 6:14 says” Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?
When we read the scriptures “be not yoked with unbelievers” we assume right away that Paul is talking about marriage. And yes that is true indeed. But Paul just doesn’t stop there. He also talks about the relationships we have with friends who are not apart of Christ. Paul gives a metaphor when he speaks about the Old Testament of mixtures of animals being joined for plowing with the weaker animal because the result will be ineffective and destructive.
We who know Christ must not be in voluntary close partnership or association with unbelievers because such relationship can compromise and corrupt your relationship with Christ. Right now you are probably saying that you have friends that are not Christians and you’re not going to give up that relationship. Let me ask you this, when you need encouragement who do you think will give you Godly encouragement, the Christian friend or the unbeliever? Is the unbeliever going to stand in the gap and pray God’s will for your life?
Unbelievers don’t know the word of God so how can they minister to you? But when you go to a believer they know the word of God and can minister to you from God’s word. Jesus tells us to love all people but He never said that we are to be like the unbeliever He tells us to come from among them. I wonder how many times are we really witnessing to our unbelieving friends?
When I became born again the people who I once hung around with started to see something different about me, my speech changed my lifestyle changed, and it bothered them so much that they said they couldn’t be my friend any longer. It hurt of course but I didn’t hold it against them, we no longer had anything in common. It’s not rockette sceinece people if you have nothing in common with a person your not going to be friends? Now when I see them around town their telling me all about the goodness of Jesus and how they are now Christians
When it comes to our business dealings God does not want His children doing any type of business dealing with man. Why would a Christian do business with a man who doesn’t know Jesus?
The scripture talks about how Paul had to go to Corinthians because they were being deceived by false teachers who had infiltrated the church and gained influence with their persuasive words. The exact same thing can happen to you and I if we ignore God’s word. You might think it’s okay but the devil has one purpose for you and I. That is to kill, steal, and destroy us, so if you prefer to keep playing with the devil and his evil ways it’s only a matter of time before you will be influenced with false businesses.
We need to remember this verse, 1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
Food 4 Thought
Let us not give the devil any more reason to attack us.
