Psalm 23:2-3 says’ He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
I do believe that one of the things we as humans haven’t learned to do is to rest. Think about it, we go on vacations to do what, rest. And yet we do everything except rest. We all have our own ideas as to what resting is, for some of us it’s doing things we normally don’t have time to do. For others, it’s laying around doing nothing. And all those things are fine.
The psalmist is giving us a whole new meaning to rest. As a child, my mother taught us girls this verse she always told us that anytime we become afraid to quote it. As a small child, you don’t understand certain things but I remembered moms word after I would have a nightmare. I would sit up in my bed and start quoting the entire chapter of Psalm 23 and you know what? It brought comfort to me and I could go back to sleep.
Nothing in life happens without a reason, God speaks to us over and over and we just aren’t listening to Him. It’s amazing that when we find ourselves in that place where God makes us lie down that He has our full attention. The things in which we once thought were important are no longer.
Our bodies must rest and when we don’t rest, our bodies speaks in another language. We become rundown, tired, stressed and it is normally accompanied with colds or a virus. There is a beauty to it when the Lord makes you and I lie down, God restores our soul and he leads us to greater paths of righteousness.
Have a blessed Saturday, and remember when God makes you and I rest be grateful for it. He knows what is best for us.
