Matthew 7:21-23 Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’
There are hundreds upon hundreds of things that we all can do that are considered good deeds. Express how you feel to someone special to you. Donate money to a worthwhile cause. Donate your old books to a local library. Mentor a child or single parent. Go to the grocery store for one of your neighbors. These are just a few things that we all can and should want to do for others.
I am the type of person that believes we all should do random acts of good deeds daily. I also believe that all those good deeds we do doesn’t get any one into heaven. I say this because we have people who honestly believe that when they die they will go to heaven based on their good deeds.
You might be thinking well, if a person can’t get into heaven by good deeds then why do we have to do them I am so glad you asked me that. The answer is pretty simple, we do them because God tells us to do them and when we do them it will go well with us. And yet so many refuse to accept Jesus as Lord of their lives; for they believe they can get to heaven by the many acts of deeds that he or she does.
If deeds could get us into heaven there would be no reason for Jesus to be crucified on the cross. And though we are to always do good deeds there is something much greater that we must do and that is have faith. Faith goes much deeper; faith gets us closer to God while doing our good deeds are just random acts we do to our fellow man.
So I ask you today, when it comes to good deeds are you doing them everyday? And where is your faith?
