Philippians 4:8 says” Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
When you look at a river what do you see? A body of water has many actions, its rushing, its calm and it can take you over. Did you know that our minds and our thinking are like a river? Here in this verse the word of God tells us that when our thoughts begin to take us over we are to immediately think of these things.
I know when things come our way it’s hard for us to immediately think on these words. We first want to try to figure it out on our own. Jesus doesn’t want us doing it on our own He want us to come to Him first.
Not to say that we don’t ever go to the word. But in most cases we don’t always do that until we have done everything in our power and when that’s not working then we are ready to see what His word has to say about it. We need to always remember even in the simplest of things we are to seek Him first and not our own self-will.
Have you ever asked yourself why did Jesus tell us to think of these things? Jesus knew that in the flesh we would let the rivers of life overwhelm us. If we would turn our mind and thoughts towards Him first then we will see how His words will become a safety raft and we would not drown but will float to safety.
Aren’t you so glad that no matter what comes your way that God has a word for it? God bless you and enjoy this wonderful day.
