1 Corinthians 14:39-40 says, Therefore, my brothers and sisters, be eager to prophesy and do not forbid speaking in tongues. But everything should be done in fitting and orderly way.
When it comes to “tongues” of all the gifts this one is the most controversial gifts of all. Now you all know me I never debt God’s word and so I won’t today, so please put aside what you thought you knew or what you were taught and let’s go directly to the word of God.
What are tongues? Tongues is the Holy Spirit giving you the supernatural ability to speak in a foreign tongue that you have no knowledge or ability to speak on your own. When you have been baptized with the Holy Spirit one of the signs is speaking in tongues. In Romans 8:26 it says, In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.
Which means there will be moments we are going to be lost and don’t know what to pray for, and I know each one of us have found ourselves feeling like oh, God what do I pray about how I say the words. This happens to every believer but the blessing is God has given us a gift which is tongues and when we don’t know what to pray or what to say we immediately begin to pray in tongues and when we do this it’s the Spirit praying directly to the Father, there is no motives when we pray in the spirit. Because the spirit knows just what to pray to the Father about concerning you.
When you have this gift of speaking in tongues you are to pray in tongues more often than you should, every day when you pray in this tongue you are developing a prayer life and that prayer life becomes strong and you become in tune with the Father more so. For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.” 1 Corinthians 14:2.
Now the other part of tongues is interpretation now this gift here is which we normally see and hear when in a church setting, someone will speak in a tongue and another will interpret what was spoken. Both gifts are important, and if you so desire to interpret a tongue you must seek and stir this gift up within you. When it comes to interpret of tongues some people believe it’s not for today some think it’s not of God, sadly even those folks are wrong.
When you interpret a tongue, it’s the Holy Spirit moving upon you. Sometimes two tongues are given, and we should never under-estimate the power of God and think only one tongue should be given. Understand with interpretations of tongues there must be order. If a tongue is given and the interpretation is given while the tongue is still speaking, it’s out-of-order and God is not there it’s all flesh.
So often people will get in the flesh and be so out-of-order. God is a God of order and He expects us to do His work in order. I do believe we need to have some teachings on tongues in our churches. We don’t need to purchase no books by any author. The only book we need to teach from is straight from the bible, 1 Corinthians 14 for the scriptures speaks of orderly worship. We should never misuse God’s gifts for anyone or anytime. We must always treat it with honor. If we misuse God’s gifts you and I will be held in judgment.
