Sharing your Faith, “When they ask WHY do you say “Merry Christmas?”

1 Peter 3:15 But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.

Christmas day is almost here and for a child of God it’s much more than the presents under the tree, much more than the decoration. It’s the birth of our Savior that is important to us. Many will be celebrating and enjoying this day with their friends and love ones.

I want to tell you about a conversation that I always have around this time of year. When people say to me Happy Holidays I respond back always by saying Merry Christmas. As a Christian I can’t say Happy Holiday. After saying “Merry Christmas” she walked back to me and said. Why did you say Merry Christmas? My response was, I say Merry Christmas because of Christ Jesus. She said don’t you think you might offend someone by saying Merry Christmas? I said, if they are offended then that is their problem, but I can’t and won’t deny Christ. She said you know I too am a Christian, but I struggle with saying Merry Christmas because when I say Happy Holidays I am making everyone happy.

I said let me ask you a question? We have all these different religions that man has made, and they can say whatever they want to the point that they push their gods in your face. If they can do that why do I have to be silent about the God whom I serve and believe in? The look on her face said it all. She was stunned and at the same time it gave her something to think about.

I know some of you might not agree with how I handle it, and that is okay. But I made up my mind many years ago that I will not compromise God’s word and I will NOT let anyone tell me that I can’t say Merry Christmas or share my faith. Folks we live in a world now where those who hate Jesus are wanting to shut us up, and we can’t allow them to shut our mouths.

I ask you what will you say, Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas?
